WHY MUSIC PLAYS SUCH AN IMPORTANT ROLE ON YOUR WEDDING DAY
MUSIC FOR YOUR ALTERNATIVE WEDDING DAY
Your wedding day is a beautiful blend of emotions, love and connections, and amidst the myriad of decisions you’ll make along the way, one element that should absolutely not be underestimated is the role of music. This is because music has a unique ability to tap into our emotions and evoke feelings and memories that words alone can’t often express. As you walk down the aisle to a song that perfectly encapsulates your love story or hit the dancefloor with your partner and/or mates to a tune that takes you back to a euphoric time, it’s the music that carries the raw emotion and can fire up the same feelings for many years to come!
I am a HUGE music fan and believe that the music included at a wedding and on your wedding film is immensely important: you're basically curating the ultimate playlist for the most epic day of your life! That’s why I really take the time to get to know my couples, find out what makes them unique, and what music gets them dancing. If it’s soppy piano tunes you’re after, then Electric Reel is not the one for you! Forget slow and mellow; my films are upbeat, fast-paced and most importantly, fun, but with a strong rock’n’roll edge. Who said wedding videos can’t be as cool as any other awesome music video out there? Not me!
WEDDING BANDS, DJs AND PLAYLISTS
Ditching the ordinary is always my top tip when it comes to music, so if the budget allows, do yourself and your guests a favour and book a live band. Honestly, nothing compares! I don’t care if it’s soul, funk or country classics - your wedding reception will be alive with the kind of raw, electric energy that only live music can provide. Remember, it’s not just about the music; it’s an experience.
Now, let’s talk playlists. Creating a soundtrack that mirrors your personalities and love story is an absolute game-changer - trust me. From the "I dos" to the last dance, this is your chance to energise your day and make it totally bespoke. Include tunes that mean something to you and your partner individually and as a couple. Whether it's a song you heard on your first date or the one that makes you both dance around the kitchen like nutters. Treat this like a kind of musical autobiography of your relationship - sounds pretty fun, right? In fact, even if you’re not getting married, I’d encourage you to do this because it’s a LOT of fun!
If you’re already on the same page as me, you’ll agree that music shouldn’t simply blend into the background; it should form the unique vibe of your day… ALL day long! From getting ready with your best ones to throwing each other around the dance floor, the right song selection can transform the atmosphere and infuse energy into every single moment. Music is incredibly personal, and whilst taking others’ tastes into consideration is good etiquette for a smooth-running day (Aunty Margaret probably doesn’t appreciate Slayer as much as you do), it is still YOUR day, so don’t feel pressured to play Mr. Brightside if you don’t want to! Because, let’s be honest, you don’t really want your wedding reception to look and feel like everyone else’s, do you?
TIPS WHEN IT COMES TO CHOOSING YOUR WEDDING MUSIC
A hot tip that I always share with my couples is to keep the vibes high from morning to night. High-energy music isn’t just about what happens on the dance floor; it’s about infusing every moment with the same infectious feeling. Instead of traditional sombre tunes, why not set the tone with something more lively and joyful - especially when it comes to walking back down the aisle as a married couple - that song selection deserves to be EPIC! Through the drinks reception and even during the wedding breakfast, soundtrack the afternoon with upbeat music, ensuring your guests are charged and ready to hit the dance floor when the time comes!
But why stop at simply playing the music? If you are as much of a music fan as me, there are other ways you can incorporate your shared love for music into the day. Imagine your favourite vinyl doubling up as a guestbook, where friends and family leave their notes and well-wishes on the sleeve. Or you could name each table after a favourite band/artist/album, giving your guests a fab insight into your shared music journey. How about gifting personalised guitar picks as wedding favours or sharing your wedding playlist with your guests via a scannable QR code?
When the time comes, I will choose the most incredible song for your wedding video, but until then, consider music during every step of your wedding planning because your wedding day should be a celebration that rocks, dances, and echoes with energy! After all, this is not an everyday event; it's an epic moment in your history, and the music is what will make it truly unique and remembered by all for years to come!
